  • Tiger Woods tweets he's getting 'professional help' for pain meds after DUI
By Sam Laird - Tuesday Jun 20, 2017

When Tiger Woods was arrested on DUI charges in late May, he blamed "an unexpected reaction to prescribed medications."

Now he says via Twitter that he's getting "professional help" managing those medications.

Woods tweeted the short statement Monday night, three weeks after his arrest.

The golf legend was found asleep at the wheel of his vehicle in the wee hours of May 29 in Jupiter, Florida, where he owns a home.

Later that afternoon, he released a statement blaming the episode on an "unexpected reaction to prescribed medications." Woods said he "didn't realize the mix of medications had affected me so strongly." Read more...

  • Atari, yes Atari, confirms it's making a new game console
By Peter Allen Clark - Friday Jun 16, 2017

Your retro gaming icon wants back into the console business.

Twenty four years after the company put out its last home console, Atari announced Friday that it will release a new console for an already crowded mass market.

In an exclusive interview with GameBeats, Atari CEO Fred Chesnais confirmed that the New York company had big plans in the works.

“We’re back in the hardware business,” he said.

The move was teased last week, when Atari launched a site for something called the Atari Box. The site featured a video of a wood-paneled something that could only be the Atari Box.

At this point, little else is known. Chesnais only seems to have told GameBeats that the Atari Box (Or maybe it's Ataribox?) uses PC technology (which, what console doesn't?). He also said they are still finalizing the design and will show it off some time in the future. There is no word on what kind of games would be provided for it or how development would work. • Gritty 1943 photos record Maine woodsmen on a dangerous spring lumber drive
By Alex Arbuckle - Sunday Jun 11, 2017

A woodsman wearing spiked shoes opens up an empty boom at the upper end of Mooselookmeguntic Lake so it can be filled with more logs from the Kennebago River.

    Image: Library of Congress

In May 1943, Office of War Information photographer John Collier traveled to the timber holdings of the Brown Company in western Maine near the New Hampshire border.

There, he camped out with woodsmen who were tasked with guiding thousands of heavy, slippery logs on the spring pulpwood drive down the Kennebago River and Mooselookmeguntic Lake toward distant pulp and paper mills.

In addition to making portraits of the workers at rest, he captured the men in action as they deftly used pikes to maneuver the pulpwood, even riding the logs themselves to usher them through treacherous waters toward their destination. Read more...
