Brewers make trade with White Sox for reliever Anthony SwarzakThe Milwaukee Brewers bolstered their bullpen Wednesday, acquiring reliever Anthony Swarzak in a trade with the Chicago White Sox.The right-hander got four outs for his first career save in the White Sox’s 3-1 victory over the Cubs on Monday.Cordell, 25, an 11th-round draft pick by Texas in 2013, is batting .284 with 10 homers and 45 RBIs in 68 games with Triple-A Colorado Springs this year.The White Sox also said outfielder Avisail Garcia has a right thumb injury that will sideline the All-Star for a couple of weeks.Anderson, who has been hampered by injuries throughout his career, is 40-45 with a 3.99 ERA in 133 games with the A’s, Rockies, Dodgers and Cubs.The 2015 AL Cy Young Award winner has not pitched since June 2 because of a neck injury that sent him to the disabled list for the second time this year.

NEW YORK — Martin Shkreli, accused of defrauding his hedge fund investors and a pharmaceutical company, was convicted on three of eight counts on Friday, after a five-week trial in U.S. District Court in Brooklyn, N.Y.Shkreli was accused of securities and wire fraud related to two hedge funds he ran, MSMB Capital and MSMB Healthcare.The prosecution brought forth an “avalanche” of evidence, as prosecutor Jacquelyn Kasulis put it in her rebuttal argument, that included a threatening letter he sent to the wife of a former employee, statements he sent to MSMB investors showing great returns at the same time he had no money in fund accounts, three versions of a backdated agreement to make it look as if MSMB Capital had invested in Retrophin when it had not, as well as claims about assets under management that were wildly out of line with his actual fund size.
