“It’s wonderful to see women stepping out of line,” said “Mary Shelley” director Haifaa al-Mansour when she introduced the world premiere of her film on Saturday night at the Toronto International Film Festival. The Saudi Arabia-born director could have been talking about her own journey to become a film director, but also about the subject of her film, the 19th century writer whose first edition of “Frankenstein” was issued anonymously because publishers of the time didn’t feel that the horror story was appropriate subject matter for a young woman.

Nina Garcia, the creative director of Marie Claire magazine and longtime judge on “Project Runaway,” will become the new editor-in-chief of Elle, Hearst Magazines announced Tuesday.Garcia succeeds Robbie Myers, who announced last week she was stepping down from the fashion bible she has led since 2000.Garcia will begin her new role on September 18, reporting to Hearst Magazines Chief Content Officer Joanna Coles.Also Read: Graydon Carter to Exit Vanity Fair in December After 25-Year Reign as EditorGarcia had worked at ELLE previously, starting in 1995 and then serving as fashion director from 2000 to 2008. She then became fashion director at Marie Claire, and was promoted to creative director in 2012.

Woody Allen’s next film, “Wonder Wheel,” hasn’t even been released yet, but the filmmaker is already making plans for his next film, which he announced Tuesday will star Elle Fanning, Selena Gomez and Timothee Chalamet.The project, which is currently untitled, has already secured theatrical distribution through Amazon Studios, which is also distributing Wonder Wheel.
