  • What Mets should be targeting in their sell-off
By Joel Sherman - Saturday Jul 8, 2017

That the Mets must be sellers this month (and next) is the easy part. Now, the tough part: Are they selling because this is a bad year for a good team, or is this a wakeup call about the need for an overhaul? The Mets are not alone in having to make this self-evaluation. Recent...

  • It's Not Easy Being Green - But You Can Make It Easier
    Wednesday Apr 20, 2016

Though there's a certain contingent of the population utterly devoted to going green, there's still plenty of resistance out there. Whether it's ignorance, laziness, or downright denial, not everyonerecycles, conserves, or even buys into the idea that these things are important. Some of them are even in Congress.

  • Amazon is selling a 2.5-inch hard drive enclosure for $7
By Ian Paul - By Ian Paul - Thursday Aug 3, 2017

So you've finally decided to swap that 1TB hard drive for a 500GB SSD, in order to benefit from the SSD's faster read/write speeds. But what are you going to do with that old hard drive loaded up with all your photos and documents? Well, you can throw it into this Aukey 2.5-inch enclosure, which is available right now for $7.

To get this sale price, you have to click on the "Buy 1, get 30% off" link below the price. (You may need to use a desktop browser to see it.)

This enclosure isn't particularly different than anything else you'll find out there, but its price makes it an easy buy. Inside, there's a SATA connector, and on the outside you've got USB 3.0. As with other enclosures, you've got that specialized connector that feeds into the enclosure, with a regular USB connector on the other end. The enclosure comes with its own cord, so all you need to do is supply the hard drive.

  • Seas rise, trees die: Climate change before your eyes
By WAYNE PARRY, Associated Press - Tuesday Aug 1, 2017

PORT REPUBLIC, N.J. (AP) — They're called "ghost forests" — dead trees along vast swaths of coastline invaded by rising seas, something scientists call one of the most visible markers of climate change. The process has occurred naturally for thousands of years, but it has accelerated in recent decades as polar ice melts and raises sea levels, scientists say, pushing salt water farther inland and killing trees in what used to be thriving freshwater plains.[...] scientists agree the startling sight of dead trees in once-healthy areas is an easy-to-grasp example of the consequences of climate change.[...] the death of the trees makes soil microbes release nitrogen, which adds to nitrogen already occurring from other sources, including agricultural runoff, to contribute to algae blooms and reduced oxygen that can sicken or kill fish.Seas off the East Coast have risen by 1.3 feet over the last 100 years, said Ben Horton, a Rutgers University professor and expert on sea level rise.Marcelo Ardon, a biology professor at North Carolina State University, studied one site called the Palmetto Pear Tree Preserve on Albemarle Sound in North Carolina from 2006 to 2009.In southern New Jersey, the most affected species is the Atlantic white cedar, which was a mainstay of the shipbuilding industry because of its resistance to rot.
