- 10 new lakefront condos hit market at Lake Tahoe
Monday Dec 12, 2016
A flurry of construction and redevelopment in north Kings Beach has brought better roads, more retail and the Tahoe Beachfront Residences, 10 lakefront condos just released to the market. Dale Cox Architecture designed the townhomes, GLA Morris served as general contractor and Marti McElhinney of the Open Door handled the interior. Ten units with lake views, open floor plans and designer finishes sprang from this collaboration. Coffered wall panels establish a Craftsman or farmhouse element in the great room anchored by a chef’s kitchen with Thermador appliances. Turn to the home’s two gas fireplaces and three heating zones to stay cozy on windy winter nights. Sunlight kisses the suite’s gabled and picture windows while illuminating the spa bathroom’s walk-in rain head shower and soaking tub. A laundry room on the entry level serves as a place to shed snowy or sandy accessories before unwinding upstairs. A homeowners association tends to the development obsessively, and the continuous maintenance commonly associated with a vacation home isn’t a concern for Tahoe Beachfront residents. Grill, mingle around a fire pit, sip on something at the bar or simply lie in a beach chair with a book as the lapping waves provide the soundtrack.
- Court keeps Great Lakes wolves on endangered species list
By JOHN FLESHER, AP Environmental Writer - Tuesday Aug 1, 2017
(AP) — A federal appeals court Tuesday retained federal protection for gray wolves in the western Great Lakes region, ruling that the government made crucial errors when it dropped them from the endangered species list five years ago.[...] courts have sided with environmental groups led by the Humane Society of the United States, which have sued to block the service's repeated efforts to strip wolves in the region of their protected status and put states in charge of them."The second highest court in the nation reaffirmed that we must do much more to recover gray wolves before declaring the mission accomplished," said Noah Greenwald, endangered species program director at the Center for Biological Diversity.Wolves are still missing from more than 90 percent of their historic range in the lower 48 states, and both the Endangered Species Act and common sense tell us we can't ignore that loss.Organizations representing farmers and ranchers, who want authority to shoot wolves preying on livestock, have long pushed to drop them from the federal list, which hunting groups also favor.By designating wolves in the three Great Lakes states and six others as a distinct population segment and dropping them from the endangered list without evaluating the effect on wolves elsewhere, the service created a "backdoor route" for lifting protections elsewhere, said the opinion written by Judge Patricia Millett.
