  • Carrefour drops dog meat from China stores, 5 years after it said it would
By Yvette Tan - Thursday Jun 15, 2017

French supermarket Carrefour has announced it's removed dog meat products from two of its outlets in China.

The news comes amid ongoing backlash against the consumption of dog meat in the country.

But perhaps what comes as a bigger surprise is that the supermarket giant carried dog meat in the first place.

Carrefour, which has more than 200 stores in China, promised back in 2012 that it would remove dog meat from its shelves, when approached by Animals Asia, an animal rights group.

However, according to Animals Asia, a follow-up visit to the store in May 2017 — the dog meat products were still on sale. Read more...

  • Sneaky cat pretends to be human to avoid being seen by dog
By Samantha Scelzo - Monday Jun 19, 2017

The best thing to do when in close contact with someone you don't want to talk to is to blend in with your surroundings. Laugh along with a group of strangers, hide behind a fake plant, do literally anything to make yourself invisible.

In this video uploaded to Youtube by user Binshattan145, one cat wants absolutely nothing to do with a passing dog. After the cat notices the dog from the peripherals of its nervous side-eye, it acts fast. The only thing this stealth feline can think to do to avoid the dog and blend in with its environment is casually clap along to a song sung by a nearby group of humans.  Read more...

  • Jowls for days: Meet the 2017 World's Ugliest Dog winner
By Chloe Bryan - Saturday Jun 24, 2017

The 2017 World's Ugliest Dog winner is perhaps the floppiest yet.

Martha, a three-year-old 125-pound Neapolitan Mastiff from Sebastopol, California, took the top prize at the Petaluma competition on Friday. Martha will triumphantly return home with $1,500, a trophy, and a free trip to New York City for media appearances.

    And she seems absolutely thrilled.

Martha reportedly won over the judges the way we'd all like to — by lying down and not doing anything, even when she was supposed to.

This year's second and third place winners were Moe, a Brussels griffon pug, and Chase, a Chinese crested-Harke mix. They are both beautiful. Read more...
