- Buster Posey eager for Madison Bumgarner’s return
By John Shea - Wednesday Jul 12, 2017
MIAMI — All-Star catcher Buster Posey was right to the point when asked what it would mean to have Madison Bumgarner back with the Giants.Bumgarner, after his latest rehab start at Class A San Jose on Monday, is looking forward to rejoining the rotation in San Diego, where the Giants play this weekend. The next day he fell off a dirt bike in Colorado and suffered a sprained AC shoulder joint and bruised ribs.Without Bumgarner, the Giants (34-56) haven’t been a factor in the National League West, though his absence hardly is the only reason.“It’s different for a team looking ahead when they play us, even if Bum’s pitching one game out of a three- or four-game set,” Posey said. The Giants trail first-place Los Angeles by 27 games, and Dodgers All-Star Clayton Kershaw pointed to Bumgarner when asked about the Giants’ lost season.Perhaps the last thing on A’s first baseman Yonder Alonso’s mind during his time in Miami was the trade deadline. The A’s lone All-Star could be trade bait as the July 31 deadline approaches, along with teammates Sonny Gray and Jed Lowrie, among others.Alonso paraded through Miami with other All-Stars on Tuesday afternoon and couldn’t help but remember the Marlins’ 2003 championship parade that took the same route.“I knew exactly where I was standing,” said Alonso, who rode by Tuesday where he was positioned 14 years earlier to see Dontrelle Willis, Josh Beckett, Juan Pierre, cigar-smoking manager Jack McKeon and the rest of the World Series champs.

- Take me out to the screen: VR baseball a hit
By RONALD BLUM, AP Baseball Writer - Monday Jul 10, 2017
Take me out to the screen: VR baseball a hitDeveloped by GMR Marketing, the Esurance Behind The Plate With Buster Posey VR Experience allows fans to "catch" fastballs, curveballs and sliders from a generic pitcher at velocities ranging from 86-93 mph.Esurance Insurance Services Inc., a subsidiary of Allstate Corp., became a sponsor of Major League Baseball in 2015 and signed Posey as a brand ambassador. In a dual setup at FanFest, which opened Friday and runs through Tuesday, people get to signal for three pitches over about 90 seconds as Posey's recorded voice offers tips.Commercial and social media content was shot over two days during spring training in Scottsdale, Arizona, where Posey's San Francisco Giants train. With VR, there's something really entertaining about seeing people's facial reactions and kind of seeing their movements and how they react to having a ball flying at their face.
- Posey said Bumgarner’s return will be “a boost”
By John Shea - Tuesday Jul 11, 2017
MIAMI - All-Star catcher Buster Posey was right to the point when asked what it would mean to have Madison Bumgarner back with the Giants. “It would mean we could win some more games,” Posey said from Marlins Park, where the 88th All-Game will be held Tuesday night. Bumgarner, after his latest rehab start at Class A on Monday, was looking forward to rejoining the rotation in San Diego, where the Giants play this weekend. If the lefty goes on the usual four days’ rest, he’d start Saturday. The next day, he fell off a dirt bike in Colorado and sustained a sprained AC joint and bruised ribs. There are different variables in effect just because of the presence a top-of-the-line starter has. The Giants trail first-place Los Angeles by 27 games, and Dodgers All-Star Clayton Kershaw pointed to Bumgarner when asked about the Giants’ lost season. The Giants’ rotation ERA ranks 25th in the majors at 4.95, but Posey acknowledged several factors detoured a team that once expected to contend.
