- Irvin relishes “bad cop” role with Raiders
By Vic Tafur - Sunday Aug 6, 2017
A thousand cop movies and TV shows can’t be wrong.Raiders defensive leaders Khalil Mack and Bruce Irvin relish playing those roles when it comes to helping and the getting the most out of the team’s rookies and second-year players.Linebacker Shilique Calhoun recently said Irvin and Mack were the two toughest coaches on the field.Irvin has been impressed with a couple of the rookies up front on the defensive line at training camp.“We are a confident group and we feel like we have everything we need to be a Top-5, Top-10 defense,” Irvin said. The defensive players could even pick something up from new running back Marshawn Lynch, who came out of retirement to play for his native city of Oakland and with former Seahawks teammate Irvin. The “Beast Mode” physical, in-your-face style is contagious, Irvin said. When we were in Seattle, and the defense would see him break five or six tackles on a long run, it got us hyped up.Vic Tafur is a San Francisco Chronicle staff writer.
