Thousands of firefighters continued to make progress Saturday on a wildfire burning west of Yosemite in the state’s Gold Country, officials said. The Detwiler Fire, which started last Sunday and spread across Mariposa County, grew overnight by about 200 acres. By Saturday morning, the fire had charred 75,200 acres, but a crew of around 4,000 firefighters had increased containment to 30 percent, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. Residents of Mariposa, which had been evacuated earlier in the week, were allowed to return to their homes Friday, but many areas outside the town remained under evacuation orders.
