A display contains frozen items, and the shelves are stocked with jars and cans. But there’s just one reason to visit this Boerum Hill business: meat.

- Rick Steves: Fierce castles in friendly North Wales
By Rick Steves - Thursday Jan 5, 2017
Humble, charming little Wales is a land of lusty men’s choirs, salty harbors, slate-roofed villages, stunning mountains and stout castles. In the Middle Ages, the standard castle was a simple stone building (“keep”) on a hill (“motte”), surrounded by a wall that enclosed a yard (or “bailey”) where the people lived.Today it boasts the best medieval walls in Britain, a protective castle dramatically situated on a rock overlooking the sea, and an appealing harbor front that locals treat like a town square.Historically accurate (if facsimile) household items bring the rooms to life, as does the refreshing lack of velvet ropes — you’re free to wander as you imagine life in this house.Modeled after the striped, angular walls of ancient Constantinople, the castle, though impressive, was never finished and never really used.Today, it feels genuinely Welsh, with a fine harbor front, lots of colorful shops and eateries, a fascinating Victorian prison (now a museum), and the remains of an idyllic castle. While Beaumaris shows medieval castle engineering at its best — four rings of defense, a moat and a fortified dock — problems in Scotland changed the king’s priorities before his vision could be completed. The site was overgrown until the last century, when it was cleaned up to create a parklike space, with pristine lawns and a classic moat.Because it’s harder to get here, it’s less crowded, making your visit feel more authentic.
- Julius’ Castle restaurant gets the OK to reopen on Telegraph Hill
By J.K. Dineen - Thursday Jul 6, 2017
Julius’ Castle, the long-dormant Telegraph Hill landmark where generations of San Francisco families celebrated wedding anniversaries and graduations, will get a new lease on life after the Planning Commission voted Thursday to allow the restaurant to reopen. The vote was 7-0 despite a litany of complaints from Telegraph Hill residents who said the reopening would create a sleep-disrupting horror of traffic congestion, idling Ubers, noisy garbage trucks and drunken revelers.Scott said he has agreed to mitigation measures in relation to traffic, parking and noise requested by the Telegraph Hill Dwellers neighborhood association. The Planning Commission approval includes an agreement that Scott will limit trash pick-up to after 6:30 a.m. and delivery hours to between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.John Lee, who lives at 1406 Montgomery St., said the Planning Department staff report on the project “understates the severity of noise and traffic problem this project would create.”[...] resident Ashley Simmons said Julius’ Castle is an important part of city history — a place where her grandparents celebrated milestones and where her parents held their engagement party.
- Fox Paid Sexual Harassment Claim Against Top Murdoch Deputy David Hill (Exclusive)

21st Century Fox paid off a woman who accused former top executive David Hill of sexual misconduct while he ran Fox Sports, two individuals with knowledge of the situation told TheWrap. The payment happened in 1998, and suggests Fox had issues with sexual harassment long before the investigations that led to the exits of Fox News star Bill O’Reilly and founder Roger Ailes, and the ouster of Fox Sports President Jamie Horowitz last month.Hill, part of Fox chief Rupert Murdoch’s inner circle, was promoted to chairman of Fox Sports Media Group the following year, and had a 24-year career with the company that ended in 2015.The Australian-born Hill stepped down in 2015 to open a Fox-backed production company called Hilly Inc. He also co-produced the 2016 Academy Awards. In early July, the Fox Business Network suspended “Making Money” anchor Charles Payne amid an investigation into sexual harassment.Fox last year vowed to change its culture, taking measures like emergency refresher courses in sensitivity training for the news division — something the channel’s head of human resources called “critical” to maintaining the workplace.
