  • Self-driving shuttle will take a few lucky college students to class next year
By Brett Williams - Wednesday Jun 21, 2017

University of Michigan engineering students will get a slick new ride to class starting next school year — no driver necessary.

The University's MCity self-driving development hub just announced its plans to launch a free autonomous shuttle service in the school's North Campus. It's the first time the self-driving program has offered services outside of the 32-acre MCity complex, which opened in 2015.

  • School in China literally cracks down on students' phones
By Yi Shu Ng - Friday Jun 23, 2017

Many schools frown upon students bringing phones to school. And this one means business.

A middle school in Guiyang, a city in southwest China, is going viral for actually destroying phones that it confiscates.

And as if it couldn't get any worse, the phones, which are first soaked in water, are then smashed with a hammer in front of the entire school.

  • Every single senior at this low income D.C. school earned their way into college
By Andrea McNeil - Wednesday Jun 14, 2017

Getting into college is difficult for many students and it looked near impossible for the seniors at one school. But they didn’t let that stop them.

The seniors of Frank W. Ballou Senior High School in Washington, D.C. faced unique challenges that gave their acceptance rate into higher education a low probability. However, they took those odds and the school earned an inspirational 100 percent college acceptance rate for the graduating class.

According to WUSA9, Ballou High School is surrounded by violence and poverty. Last year, only three percent of its students met the city-wide standards for reading. Read more...
