Regardless of the bonds that unite us, be they familial or otherwise, nothing is worth spending even one full minute in a room that is higher than 70 degrees Fahrenheit. This is something that we all agree on.

Of course, it still isn't easy, removing loved ones from your life indefinitely because they choose to live in a moderately warmer environment. Personally, removing these people from my life were some of the hardest things I've ever done. Read more...

  • Heat advisory in effect until Sunday night
By Filipa Ioannou - Sunday Jul 16, 2017

A weekend of hot, dry conditions led the National Weather Service to issue heat advisories and red flag warnings across the Bay Area, indicating an elevated risk of fire danger. The red flag warnings apply to elevations above 1000 feet in the North and East Bay Hills, Santa Cruz Mountains, Diablo Range, and Santa Lucia Range, as well as interior mountains in Monterey and San Benito counties. Gusting, northerly winds coupled with low humidity make for prime conditions for fires to spread, according to the agency.

  • China's verdant 'forest city' will fight pollution with a million plants
By Yi Shu Ng - Tuesday Jun 27, 2017

If tree-covered skyscrapers act like enormous air filters, this cluster of buildings will be a clean air oasis.

China has broken ground on a "forest city" in the southern city of Liuzhou. The development, which will span two-thirds of a mile along the Liujiang River, involves blanketing offices, apartments, hotels, and schools with more than a million plants and about 40,000 trees.

The verdant towers will help soak up urban air pollution, produce clean oxygen, and boost local biodiversity. The greenery also provides shade on sunny days and acts as an insulating blanket during winter, allowing tenants to use less heating and electricity. Read more...
