  • Nation’s largest brokerage firm acquires SF’s Climb Real Estate
By Kathleen Pender - Wednesday Aug 31, 2016

Climb Real Estate, a boutique San Francisco brokerage focused on city-dwelling Millennials, has been acquired by NRT LLC, the nation’s largest residential brokerage, the companies announced Wednesday.NRT is the parent of Coldwell Banker, Sotheby’s International Realty and ZipRealty and a subsidiary of Realogy, a publicly traded real estate conglomerate.NRT has pursued the same approach with other regional firms it acquired including the Corcoran Group in New York City and Laura McCarthy Real Estate in St. Louis, said Bruce Zipf, NRT’s president and chief executive.Climb tries hard to appeal to Millennials by focusing on mobile technology and social media.“I believe what this represents is a more traditional type platform coming together with a more innovative, unique-type platform” and providing the financial capital to expand Climb in the Bay Area, Zipf said.Greg Macres, NRT’s executive vice president for the western region, said, We want our agents to be more mobile (and) stretch the boundaries of technology.

  • Lend these speakers your ears
    By Cnet - Friday Jul 7, 2017

The UB5 loudspeakers offer the best performance of any speaker we’ve seen for the money. The vinyl finish isn’t all that durable.Low sensitivity and low impedance mean they may require an expensive, high-quality amplifier to sound their best.Paired with high-quality components, the UB5 sounds much better than you have any right to expect from a speaker of this size and price. The LG offers excellent performance for the money, particularly for movies. The connectivity available is better than most competitors with HDMI, optical, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.Streaming options include Google Cast, Spotify and Pandora. If you want to listen to music, a dedicated stereo system will sound better for the money. The LG proves how far affordable sound bar/wireless subwoofer systems have come, and sounds equally credible with movies and music. The Emotiva is a large, affordable three-way speaker featuring high-end appointments including a folded ribbon tweeter. The bass response is deep enough to forgo the need for a separate sub in smaller rooms.Bulky appearance, utilitarian black finish. The Emotiva’s dynamic sound will appeal to audiophiles on a budget who are hankering for a big-speaker sound for music and home-theater systems. The relatively affordable speaker sounds good with almost everything, and offers an excellent sense of depth and space in decent recordings. The Q350 doesn’t come with grill covers, but KEF will sell you a pair for extra cost. The Q350 bookshelf speaker looks exquisite and sounds bigger and more expensive than it really is.
